A NordForsk Private Public Partnership (PPP) Ph...

A NordForsk Private Public Partnership (PPP) PhD Programme is a research project carried out in collaboration between an enterprise, a PhD student and a university. The PhD student will be employed by Applied Plasma Physics AS (APP), and will have a supervisor from the enterprise and at least one supervisor from Aarhus University at which the student will be enrolled. Research area and project description The APP Odour Abatement Systems are compact, modular systems utilizing Non-Thermal Plasma (Cold Plasma) to reduce odour, dust and particulate matter from industrial emissions. Today, close to 300 odour and particle abatement systems are installed in Europe, Asia and USA.  High-end technologies with low operational costs for abatement of odour nuisance from intensive livestock production are urgently needed throughout highly productive areas of the world.  APP together with Aarhus University has initiated a PhD-project aimed at introducing and optimizing air cleaning by non-thermal plasma processes for animal houses.  APP is equipped with a thermal desorption GC/MS system, and the university has several instruments available. A part of the work will be method development. Hence, prior knowledge about chromatographic methods and/or mass spectrometry is considered an advantage. The PhD-student is expected to spend approximately half the time in Sandnes/Norway and half the time in Aarhus/Denmark, as well as participating in field campaigns. Qualifications Applicants must hold a master's degree (MSc or equivalent). A degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or environmental sciences will be considered an advantage. The appointment of the fellow position requires that the candidate fulfils the criteria for admission to the PhD program at the University of Aarhus.  Engagement as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the Fellowship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.  The salary is at normal Norwegian University PhD level; and compensations for staying abroad are available.  Emphasis will be placed on personal qualifications for the position.  The application (preferably in electronic version) must contain complete information about:  „h  CV, and copies of diplomas and certificates  „h  Documented academic activities and other relevant experience (publications attached)  „h  A summary of the Masters thesis.  For further information please contact Jon Are Beukes – ******, Marianne Glasius – ****** or Anders Feilberg – ****** The project starting date is 1 October 2009. The application must reach Applied Plasma Physics AS – ****** – no later than 15 July 2009 at 12.00 hours.
