Applications are invited for a PhD position at the University of Aarhus, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (DJF), department of Animal Health and Bioscience. The position is available for three years beginning as soon as possible. Research area and project description Metabonomics is a rapidly evolving field of science. The metabolome is defined as the total quantitative collection of small molecular weight compounds (metabolites) present in a biological sample derived from an organism in a particular physiological or developmental state. Metabonomics is the non-biased identification and quantification of all metabolites in a biological system In the present project we will develop multivariate analytical methodologies, which enable us to integrate information from three analytical platforms – NMR, LC-MS and LC-EC-Array – that unravel different parts of the metabolome. These analytical platforms will generate huge amounts of data that requires, for full exploitation, the development of multivariate data analytical methods that can link the analytical data to the biology of the animals with special emphasis on gut metabonomics. In addition we will establish a gut metabolome database compatible with the general databases currently available – the KEGG and METLIN databases. Qualifications and specific competences Applicants to the PhD positions must have a relevant Master’s degree (or graduate in the very near future – documentation for final thesis and date of examination must be enclosed in the application) or equivalent. Place of Employment and Place of Work The place of employment is the University of Aarhus, and the place of work is the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Blichers Alle 20, 8830 Tjele. Matriculation as a PhD student will be in accordance with Ministerial Order no. 18 of 14 January 2008 on the PhD Programme at Universities, and matriculation at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences is a prerequisite for employment as a PhD student.
