BackgroundDanish Refugee Council (DRC) seeks short term international asylum expert to work for DRC and Tajik Migration Service in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Central Asia.The project is funded by Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Danida) and Irish Aid. The funding allows DRC to deploy an international expert to expand its refugee protection activities in Tajikistan.The main objective of our project is to increase the capability of Tajik migration authorities and promote refugee legislation and protection in Tajikistan by enhancing the understanding of refugee protection and refugee status determination (RSD) within authorities to seek to bring the procedures in line with international standards.The overall goal of the deployment of an Asylum Expert is to, via direct deployment to the national immigration offices in Tajikistan, to contribute to improvement of the quality of the national RSD procedures in the country by coaching the staff and reviewing the existing internal procedural guidelines.The expert will be posted partly in the central office of the Refugee Unit under the Migration Service and partly in the DRC office in Dushanbe. The specific RSD activities are carried out in close cooperation between Refugee Unit/Migration Service and UNHCR Dushanbe.Duties• To support the RSD procedures in Refugee Unit/Migration Service through on-the-job training of the staff and by training events• To strengthen the understanding of international RSD standards by the eligibility staff and decision makers in Refugee Unit/Migration Service and the RSD Commission• To review the existing internal procedural guidelines in Refuge Unit/Migration Service and draft the amendments bringing the procedure in line with the international standardsQualifications• University law degree• Solid professional experience of asylum and refugee law and practical experience of RSD work, preferably within a European context (min. 2 years of RSD case work)• Fluency in written and spoken English and good knowledge of Russian. • It is important that you can work independently, that you possess diplomatic skills and enjoy engaging in work relations with actors from civil society, state authorities and international organisations.Further informationYou are welcome to contact Mette Honoré, phone +******for further information about the position.Please note that applications are not to be sent to the above contact, but via our on-line application system.
