Business Administration at Karlstad University has a well-established reputation in multi-disciplinary research through the Service Research Center (CTF). Many researchers in the department are associated with the center whose projects involve several areas of business administration. There is also ongoing research in other fields. Postgraduate programmes were introduced at Karlstad University in 1999. A number of doctoral students in the department are also affiliated with other universities through joint programmes and the national graduate programme Management and IT (MIT).The department of Business Administration offers a range of undergraduate studies with different specialisation opportunities. In addition to the range of standard business studies, the department is involved in industrial management programmes for engineering and technology students. These areas of study all require research in business subfields. The Service Research Center and other disciplinary activities support several specialisations, but now we need to reinforce research capacities in the area of accounting in order to expand our postgraduate programme and to enhance faculty competence at all degree levels.Subject area: The subject area of the appointment is business administration with an emphasis in accounting. Accounting in this case includes financial accounting, as well as auditing, financing, economic information systems and management control. Regardless of the candidate’s main research area, the position requires qualifications in financial accounting.Duties: The duties of the post include mostly research but also teaching and supervision at all degree levels. At the Master’s and Doctorate levels the language of instruction is usually English. The successful candidate is expected to engage in the development and management of education and research in his/her area of expertise, financial acccounting in particular, and to supervise doctoral students and actively attract external research funding.Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as a professor the candidate must have demonstrated academic as well as teaching skills.Academic skillsThe candidate’s academic work should display quality and breadth as well as originality in terms of theory and method. Even if the candidate’s qualifications include adjacent fields, the qualifications should in the main support the development of financial accounting at Karlstad University. The academic qualifications should include international and national journal publications, active participation in national and international research networks, academic conferences, and assignments as academic expert, such as journal referee, doctoral examiner, or member of recruitment panel.Teaching skillsA professor at Karlstad University is expected to have experience of planning, conducting and evaluating instruction, supervision and examination at all levels of higher education. The candidate should have demonstrated skills in supervising doctoral dissertations, and the ability to reflect on her/his own pedagogical practice and philosophy. Additional qualifications are documented ability to lead and manage development and research as well as international education cooperation projects.Appointment Criteria: In the ranking of candidates special consideration will be given to the degree of academic skills required for the appointment, the scope, quality and breadth of publications, external cooperation, conference organizing, ability to attract research funding, visiting research invitations, and ability to lead and manage research projects.
