Open position for a professorship (5 years with special duties) one of two areas: International Human Resource Management or International Economics at the Department of Maritime Research and InnovationJob description:Department of Maritime Research and Innovation is part of the Faculty of Social Science and is located in Esbjerg. The department of Maritime Research and Innovation (MRI) has established itself as a dynamic, international centre of research and education with a focus on the maritime industry. MRI is funded by the Danish Parliament to do research and education based on applied economics and management theory oriented towards the (Danish) maritime industry.With its focus on maritime economics, maritime leadership, cluster development and transport chain optimisation, MFI aims to contribute actively to the continuous improvement of Danish maritime industry competitiveness in the global market.The scientific work at the department is characterised by:• Global orientation and collaboration• Practical relevance of R&D output through close cooperation with industry, maritime organisations and the Danish Maritime Authority• Teamwork, knowledge sharing and inter-disciplinary cooperation• Networking and knowledge disseminationThe department works in a highly cross-disciplinary fashion. It is therefore of crucial importance that the successful applicants are able and willing to work in teams, across research fields, and as member or coordinator of international project consortia.The successful candidate is expected to take the lead in building up research competence and a port folio of educational offerings of the one of two research perspectives we have labeled “The leadership perspective: Development of efficient maritime organisations through visionary leadership and innovation” and “The macro-perspective: Global shipping market dynamics and framework conditions”The Leadership Perspective is company oriented and focuses on human resources employed in the maritime value chains and on the capability to build change preparedness and innovative power into maritime organisations. Human resource management with a maritime focus or simply maritime HR is a much-undeveloped discipline. Therefore, there is ample possibility to set the research agenda in this field. The perspective aims at developing knowledge, tools and training, which can be applied by Danish (and foreign) shipping companies in order to enhance business processes and global activities.This perspective is currently manned with 1 associate professor and two PhD students, one of which is expected to continue as assistant professor in autumn 2009. Additional PhD students are expected to start in the coming months. It is an area of great expansion potential, and we therefore need a capable and visionary senior researcher to lead the way.The Macro Perspective focuses on understanding the dynamics and opportunities of global maritime markets (e.g. trade and financial aspects). The area is in its early stage of establishment at the department. Thus, there is amble scope for setting the research agenda. This perspective is currently manned with 1 assistant professor and 1 PhD student. An additional PhD student is expected to start this Autumn. It is expected to develop into a core business of the department for which the professor will be responsible.The successful candidate is able to demonstrate international research excellence through peer reviewed articles in international journals, and is expected to contribute to raise external funds as well. The applicant need not necessarily have experience with the maritime field, but is expected to engage fully into this empirical field.Applicants for the position as “professor with special duties” are asked to demonstrate good teaching skills in the form of for example student evaluations or pedagogical courses. The successful candidate is expected to actively develop a portfolio of courses, and contribute to the general teaching obligations within SDU as well as in relation to the partner agreements the department has made with national and international partners of collaboration.The department provides a competitive salary, modern facilities for research and teaching, as well as resources for research assistants and for travel and conference participation.Within a three-year-period foreign appointees are expected to be able to teach in Danish.Further information can be obtained from Head of Department Kristen Nedergaard, phone +******, e-mail ******ication, salary, etc.:Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and in accordance with the job description for instructors and academic personnel at institutions of higher education. Employment shall be on the terms specified in the labour market agreement and the salary shall correspond to R 37 (pay bracket 37).
