BackgroundThe Department of Business, Economics, Statistics and Informatics (ESI) at Örebro University are currently in an expansive phase. A new business school is being established, and in addition, the department is offering a number of study programmes on the master and doctoral levels.

The department is host to vibrant research activities. Within the field of business administration, one research team is focusing on business development, innovation and entrepreneurship; another has its focus on management accounting; and a third is conducting research within management and sustainable development. During the spring 2007, Örebro University advertised 50 post-doc positions, four of which within business administration. These will be filled during the autumn. Within the field of accounting, the research emphasis is on the usage and development of management control systems in organisations. Teaching and research within financial accounting is also conducted within the department. Against this backdrop, Örebro University now has an opening for a professor in accounting to consolidate the research efforts within one or both of these fields.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe position as professor includes research in the appointee’s own area of expertise; supervision at the doctoral level; as well as teaching on the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The position entails special responsibility for the doctoral study programme and research within the area of accounting at Örebro University. Further responsibilities of the appointee include the continuing development of collaboration opportunities with researchers on a national as well as an international basis; working actively with applications for research grants; as well as contributing, in any other way, to the advancement of the discipline, the department and the university as a whole. EligibilityEligible for the appointment as professor are applicants who demonstrate scholarly as well as teaching skills within the field of accounting (auditing, financial accounting and/or management accounting).

Assessment CriteriaIn the appointment process, equal importance is ascribed scholarly skills and teaching ability. With reference to the emphasis of the position, special importance is moreover attached to well-documented qualifications regarding:- competence within accounting (auditing, financial accounting and/or management accounting); proficiency in financial accounting will be considered especially significant;- familiarity with up-to-date research within the field;- ability to lead research and development work; - experience from contributing to doctoral study programmes, including the supervision of doctoral students; - ability to cooperate.

As a majority of professors at Örebro University are men, female candidates will be given preference for the position, should two or more candidates be found to have, in the main, equal qualifications.
